Addy's Pizza and the use of rust in contemporary interiors
Situated in one of the Hanoi’s urban areas, the new Addy’s Pizza site is a contemporary blend of urban, industrial chic.
The design incorporates oxidised and weathered metals, paired with earthy woods. Metal pipework is made into a feature, rather than been hidden into walls. Accent pops of colour are added on chair seats.
The rust effect has been popular in contemporary design because of its aesthetic potential to evoke the feeling of natural worn materials. The interior is given a post-industrial feeling, rust is often associated with urban decay, so used in the context of an interior restaurant, it provides the space with an urban, edgy feel.
How the rust effect is achieved
The oxidization technique is applied by our expert metal technicians at our workshop, and then the finished pieces are transported to the project site for assembly. The technique is achieved by spraying a chemical solution onto the steel framework. Natural weathering developed the rusting process, then a sealant is applied to the metal to stop the frames rusting further once in place.
